Penance

Why do people who drive 10 miles an hour (or more) over the speed limit slow down to 10 miles under the speed limit when they see a police car? Do they think those few minutes under the speed limit compensate for all the time they were over the limit?

Why won't people pass a highway patrolman who is traveling slower than the posted speed limit? On 4-lane state highways in Texas, the highway patrol officers will typically drive 55 to 60 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone, looking for speeders coming towards them. Most drivers won't pass police vehicles. They had no problem passing me! I have seen traffic back up behind the slower moving officer to the point he will pull off just to let the jam go by, then pull back on the highway going the same direction. I have also noticed that if I can get to the head of the line and pass the officer, everyone else will then follow!

Guilt produces fear. Don't break the law and you don't have to fear the police! Read Romans 13:3-4
