The Da Vinci Code Part 2
One of my required senior classes at Oklahoma Christian College was "Topics of Philosophy" taught by Dr. Lynn McMillon. The entire class read the same current novel and discussed it. Actually, we discussed how the values of the characters compared and contrasted with our Christian values. Then Dr. McMillon asked the real point. "What values and or value system is the author promoting?" I have not been able to read a fictional book since without asking myself that question.
Due to that question, I do understand the anxiety of Christendom over a fictional work. Because more accurately, they are concerned about the promotion of a philosophy of life that says the thing Christendom holds most dear is a lie. When someone feels their most sacred beliefs are being attacked, they become highly upset and almost irrational.
Perhaps this book/movie doesn't bother me because I am just not in touch with the world. And that doesn't bother me, either, because my values tell me I don't belong here. I am an alien here and my citizenship is in heaven. Read I Peter.
So is my impressions about the book correct? Those of you who have read it, what values or value system is the author promoting? (I almost bought the audio version of the book yesterday, and may yet.)
